I hear the sound of sleighbells
and in the sky a star is trying to be noticed
but no one sees
what is the reason Christmas stays away

And still it must be somewhere
just out of sight
although the ground is bare
and in the night a child wakes
frightened by a howling wind through the trees
and no one agrees on why the world's turned gray

But once there was a Christmas
eager to arrive
with peace on earth, good will to men
why can't it be that way again
keep the hope alive!
